The formula

Line positions start one spacing from the top and repeat every spacing: at college ruling that is one line every 24 px (about 6.4 mm) — 42 lines across the printable height.

Worked example

A page of college-ruled paper from this tool has exactly 42 writing lines, the same density as a standard spiral notebook page, with the red margin line 3/4 inch from the left edge.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between wide and college ruled?

Spacing. Wide ruling leaves about 9 mm between lines (this page renders 34 px at 96 dpi) and suits younger writers and big handwriting. College ruling is tighter at about 6.4 mm (24 px) — the standard notebook spacing — and narrow ruling goes further, to about 4.8 mm (18 px).

What is the handwriting style for?

Early writers learn letter size from three lines: tall letters reach the top line, small letters stop at the dashed midline, and descenders (g, p, y) drop below the baseline. Handwriting mode prints those triplets down the page.

Can I turn the margin line off?

Yes — untick Red margin line and the vertical line at 3/4 inch disappears, leaving pure ruled paper.

How many lines fit on a page?

At college ruling, 42 lines — the first line sits one spacing below the top edge and they continue to the bottom of the printable area.
