Division Worksheet Generator

Generate printable division worksheets that divide evenly at the first three levels, with an optional remainders level and answer key.

Levels 1-3 build each dividend from a divisor times a quotient, so every answer is a whole number — ideal while students are learning the fact families. Level 4 switches to raw dividends and remainders, written in the key as quotient r remainder.

Levels 1–3 always divide evenly. Level 4 adds remainders, written as "7 r3" in the key.

How to use this calculator

  1. Choose a level: beginner, basic facts, bigger quotients, or with remainders.
  2. Choose 12 to 40 problems.
  3. Click New Sheet for a fresh set.
  4. Tick "Answer key" to show quotients (and remainders at level 4) before printing.
  5. Click Print to produce the worksheet.

The formula

Levels 1-3: dividend = divisor x quotient, so division is exact. Level 4: dividend = divisor x quotient + remainder, with remainder < divisor.

Worked example

A level-2 problem is 84 / 7 with answer 12, since 7 x 12 = 84. A level-4 problem is 100 / 9 with answer 11 r1, since 9 x 11 = 99 and 1 remains.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do the early levels never have remainders?

Beginning division is taught through multiplication fact families (if 7 x 8 = 56, then 56 / 7 = 8). Generating dividends as divisor x quotient guarantees clean answers so students can focus on the relationship before tackling remainders at level 4.

How are remainders written in the answer key?

In the standard school format: quotient, the letter r, then the remainder. For example 100 / 9 shows as 11 r1, because 9 x 11 = 99 and 1 is left over.

Which level matches grades 3, 4, and 5?

Roughly: level 1 for grade 3 beginners (divisors 2-5), level 2 for grade 3-4 fact practice, level 3 for grade 4 with larger quotients, and level 4 for grade 5 once remainders are introduced.

Can I print just an answer key?

The key prints on the same sheet layout as the problems. Tick "Answer key", print one copy for grading, then untick and print the student copies.
